Algebra: A Classical Approach was developed by me for a variety of reasons. First, I felt that the books available in the marketplace did not fit the needs of my students. The mass produced textbook provided by the big publishing companies seem to be following a disturbing trend of “watering down the topics”. I feel that we need to push higher standards and hold the students to those standards. It has been my experience that students will rise to the challenge.

Another reason I wrote Algebra: A Classical Approach is that I prefer what I call a “classic” approach to algebra. By that I mean, problem sets that start simple and work up to a tough level as well as provide enough problems to generate good habits of study. Too many textbooks nowadays have short, easy problem sets that don’t allow enough repetition to inspire confidence in the students.

Lastly, I also believe that even though the content is tougher, I felt that it can be easy to learn and should not cost well over $100 as most books today do. Education should be accessible, free, and available for all. So please feel free to download and print out the pages as needed.
